My name is Jay B Sauceda, and I am thrilled to have recently joined Saltbox as their first Entrepreneur In Residence (EIR). For quick background, I've been an entrepreneur my whole life, most recently having built a third party logistics company called Sauceda Industries which helped early stage online brands scale their warehousing and shipping.
As it turns out, I started Sauceda Industries largely because of the challenges I had building my first online store. That store was an overnight success, which led to overnight headaches around getting orders shipped quickly.
I sold Sauceda Industries about two years ago, and joined Saltbox as an EIR recently because of how important I think the work they're doing is.
So, what is an Entrepreneur in Residence?
Put simply, EIR's are like the GPS in a car. We can help identify shortcuts, call out road hazards ahead of time, and point out areas where traffic might be building as you travel along.
In my case, I'm bringing years of experience building a third party logistics company, also known as a 3PL, along with years of supporting many companies like those being built in Saltbox today.
I'm also working on a few new business ideas, much like the entrepreneurs who use Saltbox to build theirs today. In my role, I'm acting in part like the voice of the customer in internal meetings and helping Saltbox stay true to solving the types of problems I faced as I scaled my first store.
Bringing years of what I call “negative knowhow”, AKA a strong sense of what not to do, will help the Saltbox team better understand where to focus the strategies to get to their destinations quickly.
What's next?
You'll see me pop up in support of Saltbox's marketing and community efforts. I expect to spend a lot of time at the various locations around the country sharing my experiences, both good and bad, in building my various companies.
But most importantly, as someone who has taken the business building trip many times, I'll be focused on helping Saltbox and its Members navigate their way to entrepreneurial success with fewer detours and traffic jams along the way.
